The Tar Heels (26-3, 12-3) finished off the season with a 79-71 victory over the Duke Blue Devils (25-5, 11-4) at the Dean Smith Center Sunday afternoon.

Tyler Hansbrough finished Senior Day with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks leading the #2 ranked Tar Heels to their second straight ACC regular season title.  They will secure the #1 seed in the ACC tournament and play Friday, March 13 at noon.  The Tar Heels should be playing the winner of the Miami/Virginia Tech game on Thursday, March 12.

The Tar Heels should head into the ACC Tourney ranked #1 in the AP & Coaches polls after #1 Connecticut lost to #3 Pittsburgh Saturday night.

All we had to say is we told you so.

So, who do you predict to win the ACC Tourney?

Tar Heels Set to Win ACC Regular Season Title

On a lighter note, the Tar Heels are in position to win the regular season and securing the #1 seed in the ACC Tourney.

The pre-season favorites have hit a few road bumps throughout this season:

  • Physc0-T started off the season on the bench with shin issues
  • One of Roy’s top recruits, Freshman Tyler Zeller, was out for most of the season with a broken wrist.
  • Surprise loses to Wake Forest, Maryland, and Boston College respectively

Wrapping up the final week, they have the ACC worst Yellow Jackets at home before traveling to Blacksburg to see the Hokies.  As usual, the Tar Heels will finish up with Duke at home.

My biggest concern heading into the season finale is, in my opinion, the biggest stain on Hansboroughs career at UNC.  In his 4 years, the Heels are 1-2 at home vs the Blue Devils in the regular season.
