PRESS RELEASE
Date: 25 June 2009 – For Immediate Release
Subject: Attack on Freedom of Religion
Senator Shane Martin is asking for the public to stand behind Spartanburg School District 7 as they defend their right to give school credits for religious courses.
Senator Martin stated: “The public needs to be aware of this issue so we may gain the momentum needed to overcome this attack. It isn’t just another attack on religious freedom it’s yet another attack on our American culture. This reminds me of the referendum placed on the ballot in 2006 to solidify that marriage is between one man and one woman. The vote split on that issue was 78% to 22%. This should never have been an issue, but a small percent of the population was attempting to force their views on the majority. That’s what we have here and we should not buckle. I believe many of society’s problems exist today as a result of our country moving further away from God and its time for the majority to take a stand.”
Martin has been in contact with legal council around the state in an attempt to insure the school has the necessary resources to defend the student’s rights to receive proper credit for their religious coursework.
Martin is a State Senator for District 13. For more information, please visit: www.SenatorMartin.com.
