Audra Shay Resigns as YRNF Chairman

Audra Shay, YRNF Chairman

Audra Shay

After a turbulent fight last year to somehow win the Chairman’s post of the Young Republicans National Federation, Audra Shay turned in her resignation today.

For those of you who don’t remember, Shay was caught up in the middle of a racial controversy over some comments made last summer by a friend on Facebook.

The friend referred to “Obama as a terrorist” and that we “need to take the country back from these mad coons” in which Shay responded with “You tell em Eric! lol”

Shay sited that the stress of a national organization with no salary and no support organization as a part of her reason for leaving.

“Recently the stress of running a national organization has begun to take a major toll on my personal, and professional, my health mentally and physically.  The responsibilities or running this organization without a salary or full time staff has become overwhelming.”

You can read her full resignation announcement at The Atlantic.

From sources we have spoken with across the nation, there is still a large division in the YRNF after the elections last summer that have yet to be ironed out.  So much so that several members of the National Committee were not notified of her decision before the cat was let out of the bag.

I hope that the new leadership can mend that gap and continue to make progress with the gains Shay claims in her resignation letter.

YRNF-Better Future for Young Republicans?

Young Republican National Federation

Young Republican National Federation

Recent events have made one wonder about the future of the Young Republicans on the national level. The first thing that goes noticed is that ORGANIZATION is needed, because of how the convention was run and how many issues were handled.

The first thing that I noticed was registration and credentialing, the biggest mess I have ever seen in my life. Only 4 of the SC delegates had name tags printed and were in the registration book, the rest of the delegation had to re-register. The credentialing for SC went very smoothly, but for the state of Texas it was a different story. The entire Texas delegation was not credentialed until almost 11:oopm Friday night due to issues with the credentialing committee.

The best part was the convention on Saturday morning which was supposed to have begun at 9:00am sharp, well if the rest of the week was a foreshadow it was not different because the convention did not begin until almost 12:00pm as there were still credentialing issues. What I want to know is, why weren’t people credentialed before 9:00am Saturday morning?  When the convention began, the debate began over what convention rules should be kept and what should be discarded. SC put on a show at this point, as we were number one in Parliamentary Procedure. Todd Kincannon, Adam Piper and Jay Ragley all showed off their skills and put SC on the map.

When it came time for the elections, it was a complete bombshell, as Team Renewal won every single seat on the executive board, Audra Shay’s team won several seats due to candidates from Team Next Level dropping out of the race. I will give credit to Team Renewal and Rachel Hoff as they fought a very good fight, and put so much hard work and effort into the campaign.

But if the convention is a revelation of the future, I am not sure if that is something to look forward to. Many people wonder why the RNC never has had a large affiliation with the YRNF, well it is because of spectacles like this past weekend that make the YRNF an untenable organization. When it takes 3 and a half hours with arguments over convention rules and whether or not there should be secret ballot or roll call, things get a little bit ridiculous.  When people are still being credentialed at 9am the time the convention should be starting, yeah people start to get a little antsy as to why they weren’t credentialed earlier that morning or the day before.

If this is what the future of the YRNF is looking like, I am not sure if many people will be affiliated with it for much longer. The YRNF proved to me that they can’t even control their people, why would anyone want to be affiliated with an organization that can’t control their people.

The YRNF, has a questionable future and it may have a very heavy impact on the young republican leaders in the United States (ie whether or not that future is succcesful or not).

Fake Audra Shay Twitter Account Pops Up

It appears that the attacks are on full string against Audra Shay.

Recently accused of making and supporting racial slurs, her online social media precense had disappeared as of July 9th.

We received a comment today saying a new twitter account has been created but after quickly looking over it, there appears to be a lot of inaccuracies.  Check out the screen shot.

So what is wrong with it.  Well first of all, the web address is completely wrong on her profile.  It points to which is not the website of the organization she now leads.  It is

Secondly, alot of the accounts look brand new that have linked to her account.  And every single post is laced to look as if she is still actively acting in the manner she is accused of.  It all seems to fishy.

We’ll keep you up to date on what we find out.

The YR National Convention

Today is the day we all have been waiting for. The showdown between Rachel Hoff and Audra Shay. Who will win, who knows?

We will say that you can check back hear throughout the day for updates from the Convention floor. We will be updating as often as we can via iPhone as long as the battery lasts.

Feel free to comment on the situations on the floor because I know I will not catch everything.

An update on yesterday’s events. Texas and Pennsylvania Delegations were seated last night. This came after hours of debate and sources indicate that the Next Level team helped resolve those issues.

We know 5 delegates from Kentucky have not been credentialed yet. Sources claim the delays in the Texas proceedings are the source of those issues.

It was also learned that ranking members of YR Renewal were responsible for trying to block the Nevada delegation from being chartered and seated. Sources claim that they allowed them to be seated once they realized Nevada’s delegates supported Renewal.

And finally, we started hearing rumblings that there may be a third party candidate running from the floor.

Sources have indicated that this individual may be from YR Renewal, showing fracture in the group. Other sources claim that the 3rd candidate may run between the ideaologies of the Next Level and Renewal candidates and has no ties to either organization.

We are having a delay in the start. Word is someone had medical issues.

Aaron Shock speak to convention. Discusses opportunity to travel with Obama to CAT to discuss stimulus.

More recess, no action. Still can’t get everyone credentialed. This is the largest unorganized piece of work I have ever seen.

Finally accepted credentials. Oh then we decide 5 hours later we need to pledge and pray

Reading the rules

Currently have a roll call vote to see if the YR protects voters rights to a secret ballot.

Secret ballot failed 522-410

We are finally voting on Chair.

Shay wins 470-415.
SC votes 12-4 against Shay

Lisa Sticken wins co-chair.

Election for vice-chair

We have lost track, chaos on the floor and Next Level candidates are dropping out of contested races.

Sunday July 12th
Updating from the airport, it appears the final tally was 472 for Shay and 415 for Hoff
