President Barack Obama, Spartanburg SC

SC Congressman Joe Wilson took to the national airwaves tonight during President Obama’s healthcare speach to a joint session of the Congress.

As if on queue, Congressman Joe Wilson let out a “YOU LIE”, immediately after President Obama stated that his plan did not allow for illegal immigrants to participate.

You tell us, after reading the section of the bill below, did Obama lie?

SEC. 202. EXCHANGE-ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUALS AND EMPLOYERS.

I really don’t understand how people care not irate over this issue and others that are rolling like flood waters from this administration’s offices. It’s time to wake up and smell the socialism. The thing that people seem to be missing is that the public option for healthcare is SOCIALISM at it’s very worst. We cannot afford yet another “government funded” (please read as your tax dollars hard at work or healthcare sponsored by Joe the Plumber) the increased tax burden to the WORKING CLASS will be crippling. So I must ask, do we really want Uncle Sam in our back pockets yet again?

I think it would be a travesty if the people of South Carolina reelected this man to the House of Representatives. Whether you agree with President Obama’s policies or not, he is still the President of the United States and respect should ALWAYS be given to that office. That was the most UNAMERICAN thing I have ever witnessed.

For the record, section 202 refers to the “Healthcare Exchange” portion of the bill. That’s the private sector’s insurance market where anyone would be able to purchase an insurance plan.

The section relevant to this discussion is actually here:

SEC. 246. NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS.
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

      Chris,

Thanks for finding this. I overlooked it last night digging through the bill.

A quick reading of the section of code and it concerns the tax credits. 246 states that it only applies to this subtitle. It is a part of Subtitle C Section 241

Gary… I think the point is the 202 section simply states that an illegal alien would be able to buy coverage privately… not that they’d get free coverage. It doesn’t provide them coverage. It doesn’t subsidize the coverage. It doesn’t give them any tax incentives. It provides no taxpayer money for their care. All it does is say they have the right to buy health insurance.

Technically they can already buy private health insurance… right? And isn’t that a good thing? I mean we’d prefer if they weren’t here illegally… but if the ARE here… isn’t it better they pay for their healthcare then have us do it due to them skipping out on medical bills?

Not that I expect any illegals to take advantage of it.

As long as it is the private insurance. It was my understanding from the message last night that the health care exchange also included the public option.

In all reality though, I’m just trying to promote discussion and see what people think. I’m still digging back through 1100 pages of H.R. 3200 to see what I can find.
