Audra Shay, Candidate for Chairman of Young Republicans

Audra Shay, YR Renewal Candidate for Chairman of the National Young Republicans, issued a statement concerning the racial allegations that are popping up all over the internet.

Shay is claiming this is a “desperate” attempt by the Next Level team to topple her candidacy for Chairman.  Her statement is below:

STATEMENT FROM AUDRA SHAY

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Yesterday on Facebook, an unfortunate incident occurred. An individual posted two comments on my Facebook wall, the first comment arguing against big government and the second filled with racially charged comments. I responded supporting the individual’s first post, to continue the fight against big government spending. I was not aware of the racial comments until sometime later, when a third individual brought it to my attention. I immediately deleted the derogatory and outright disgusting comments and subsequently posted a statement on my Facebook Status stating that in no way, shape or form are the comments posted by other individuals a reflection of me or my beliefs as an American, a Veteran, a Mother or a Candidate. I do not, nor would I ever, condone that type of language or behavior.

Unfortunately, my opponents have now spun a web of misconception and untruths, desperately trying to paint me as a racist. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, I have made it part of my Young Republican life to ensure that we did not just focus on outreach, but inclusion. Under my leadership as Chairman of the State of Louisiana’s Young Republicans, we were able to raise $90,000 for a minority outreach media campaign. Also under my leadership as Louisiana Chairman we brought the largest minority delegation to the YRNF Convention in 2007.

It is a disgrace that these types of political attacks are taking place and once again, it proves that my opponents will stoop to the lowest levels to steal this election from the jaws of victory. Our Team is one of honor and integrity. We take this service to heart and will not allow others to tarnish our reputations. If you have any questions or concerns about this matter or any other matters, please email, call or Facebook message me. I’m always available.

Many believe she was aware of the comment because of the 8 minute time lapse after the derogotory comment was made by the other individual.

I am thrilled that Audra Shay was elected as chairman of the Young Republicans. She fits in perfectly with the “rebranded” GOP message, and is sure to progress the brilliant leadership, motivating messages, and increased membership the Republican Party has displayed since November also.

  • Stacey

Okay, I’m not a republican. I think she is totally racist according to her actions. Also, exactly how old is this woman? She seems too old to be running for ‘young’ anything. Is the GOP really that hard up for membership?

  • Judith

All these smears and lies to falsely accuse Shay of being a racist is what is wrong withe Democrat Party. Happy to see it didn’t work. My previous comment that the allegations against her were false has disappeared. Let’s see if this one stays.

  • DismasUSA

It’s these same kind of vicious lies that the left is spreading about Sarah Palin. The left wingers aren’t interested in just winning an election, they have to drop a political nuclear bomb on the opponent on the right. Total annihilation is the lefts ultimate aim.
The only way the left wingers will treat a Republican with respect, is if the Republican in question is really a Democrat wearing a GOP button on their chest.
Any Republican who has truly conservative values is going to be smeared with epithets like racist, homophobe, Bambi murderer, NAZI, (I’m sure you can think of some more labels).
The only way to please these left wingers is to read the “Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei” (Communist Manifesto) by Karl Marx, and take all of your talking points from it’s pages.
Good luck Audra Shay! Your about to find out why Sarah Palin stepped down. I hope you have a bullet proof vest, because the left wingers are taking no prisoners alive. (This is not a threat. It’s an honest assessment of the neo-left wing operatives).

  • Jeff

As a lifelong Republican (up until now), I find this woman’s response to the racism that appeared on her Facebook page to be utterly inappropriate. Rather than focusing on the vileness of the racial epithets and insults, whe instead wasted no time in developing a conspiracy theory attempting to deflect attention elsewhere. Her energy has gone primarily to trash her opponents; very little mea culpa can be found here, and much is needed.

I am increasingly embarrassed to call myself GOP. This is probably the last straw for me. I love small-government, low-tax business orientation; unfortunately, this is no longer the focus of the Angry White “Christian” Male party (as it should be renamed).

    • Angry White “Christian” Male

Admit it Jeff, you’re a Democrat pretending to be a “Republican” who is outraged by these allegations. Either that or, you’re too stupid to recognize a smear campaign when you see one.
Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

      • Jay

I know… the bigotry sympathizing Republicans are going into campaign mode – smear the messengers instead of respond rationally to the stated facts. This is yet another reason why I remain disgusted with the Republican Party.

        • Angry White “Christian” Male

Yeah, there is no way Audra Shay can be telling the truth is there? Left wingers are really the only truly honest, and above board people left on the planet. Democrats would never start a campaign to smear a Republican. Democrats would never try to paint a Republican as a repugnant scum sucking low-life.
Get a life Jeff. You and the other pretend Republicans, can go back over to the Huffington Post, have a latte, and find another Conservative that’s in need of being smeared, with false allegations of racism, and H8-tred.
If you are so easily duped by such obvious B/S, there is no way to save you from the clutches of left.

          • Jay

Yep continue smearing the messengers. Did Audra ever apologize for what we know she did wrong such as calling lynching publicly accepted in Atlanta? No.

I’m so sorry that Republicans continue to sink lower and lower in standards of rational argument. It reflects badly on the United States in front of the entire enlightened world.

  • Jay

I’m sorry that Audra Shay never apologized for her racist and bigoted statements. That reflects badly on the United States to more enlightened conservatives abroad as well.

‘In October 2008, in the wake of news that an effigy of Sarah Palin was being hung outside an affluent Hollywood home as an offensive Halloween decoration, Shay replied, returning to the “LOL” style that she employed after the “coons” comment: “What no ‘Obama in a noose? Come on now, its just freedome [sic] of speech, no one in Atlanta would take that wrong! Lol.”

She picked up the thread again the next morning with a clarification and a new insight. “Apparently I could not spell last night. I am wondering if the guys with the Palin noose would care if we had a bunch of homosexuals in a noose.”’

Referring to the lynching of Obama and saying it won’t be taken wrong in Atlanta or referring to lynching gays too are not befitting of a Republican leader or any American political leader. Burning in effigy is non-violent form of protest. Lynching people is not.

    • Angry White “Christian” Male

Man you are screwed up! Go hang a burning effigy of Barack Obama, and you will be hunted down by the FBI. You will be labeled as a racist right-wing extremist, and imprisoned. But, hang an effigy of a white Republican female, and it’s accepted as “Burning in effigy is non-violent form of protest.”
You can’t even recognize your bias. “Burning an effigy” is a threat. If you found an effigy of yourself, burning in front of your house, would you take it so lightly?
They use to burn an effigy of people to say, “If I catch you, this what I’m going to do to you”.
Burning in effigy is a threat you moron. And, any policeman in America would arrest the perpetrator, if that burning effigy depicted a black man. In Colfax Louisiana, a 19 year old man dragged an empty noose behind his vehicle, and faced 20 years in prison for that. But you think it’s OK to hang somebody in effigy, as long as it’s a white Republican.
Your double standard is so glaringly obvious. You are what you accuse Audra Shay of being, and you can’t even recognize it.

      • Jay

Yep, keep smearing the messengers. I’m sorry that your standard of rational argument is so poor. This is why I am so disgusted with the Republican party. Smear the messenger and not come up with a rational defense.

And what was Audra Shay doing? Saying lynchings are acceptable in Atlanta? She never apologized.

        • Angry White “Christian” Male

          Jay,
I read what you claim she wrote, and it looks to me like she’s pointing out the double standard of the left. Which is; you can hang a white woman in effigy, and everybody is OK with it, but hang a black man, or a homosexual in effigy, and you will get arrested, and stand trial for a “H8″ crime.

You are deliberately misinterpreting her statements. She was saying sarcastically, “Oh no! No one in Atlanta would take hanging somebody in effigy (which is a mock lynching) wrong. . . Yeah right.”

She didn’t say lynching is acceptable in Atlanta. And, she didn’t say she thinks lynching is acceptable.

She was pointing out the hypocrisy of the left, who thinks it’s alright to hang Sarah Palin in effigy. While the same left wingers would be horrified by the thought of hanging Obama in effigy. To hang either candidate in effigy is equally offensive. But, you on the left can’t see that.

Thankfully any intelligent, open minded person, with a better than 5th grade education, is able to read the intent of her statements, and is not swayed by the smear tactics of Democrat party operatives. Enlightened left, my a/s/s.

What a shame. If ever there was an opportunity for young republicans to change the direction of the party, this is it! Maybe next time….

    • http://www.thepatriot.com The patriot

The direction they are going is straight to hell!

      • Angry White “Christian” Male

Hell is so full of baby murdering Democrats, Satan is building a whole new wing for them.

  • http://www.thepatriot.com The patriot

THIS IS PRECISELY WHY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL BE IN THE WILDERNESS FOR A LONG TIME. I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR HER AS AN AMERICAN LET ALONE A LEADER OF ANY PARTY. OUR SOLDIERS ARE NOW FIGHTING FOR THE FREEDOM OF OTHER PEOPLE IN FORIEGN LANDS YET IN THIS COUNTRY WE HAVE A POTENTIAL “YOUNG” LEADER SPEWING HATRED AGAINST FELLOW CITIZENS. DID IT EVER DAWN ON THIS IDIOT THAT BLACK PEOPLE ARE CONSERVATIVES TOO?????YOU CAN HATE OBAMAS POLICIES BUT THESE SAME BLACK PEOPLE YOU WILL WANT TO VOTE FOR YOU IN THE NEXT ELECTION. HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET! WHAT IF A BLACK PERSON SUGGESTED THAT HER HEAD BE PLACED IN A NOOSE AND LOL’ED IT? WOULD THAT BE ACCEPTABLE. IF YOU ARE CHRISTIAN, “DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU.” THIS WOMAN CAN JOIN THE RANKS OF ALL OF THE OTHER INCREDIBLY STUPID REPUBLICANS/CONSERVATIVES WHO PUBLICALLY LET THEIR RACISM SHOW. RACISM HAS NO PLACE IN AMERICA, PERIOD. THIS WOMAN SHOULD NOT BE ELECTED DOG CATCHER.

ENOUGH ALREADY! THIS IS AMERICA. GROW UP AUDRA! YOU ARE TOO OLD FOR THIS!

Here is an example of true political grace which Audra Shay lacked from the beginning that the controversy unfolded:

Here’s a statement from the GFU College Republicans:

It is with my deepest regret that I feel the need to address the incident that has recently plagued this campus. It has been in the Republican tradition to support those persecuted against. We are the party of abolition; the party of the Civil Rights movement. What happened on campus this week is disheartening to American politics. Regardless of your politics, this act of hate cannot be tolerated. We at George Fox are a moderate and close-knit culture. It is important that we not let this uncharacteristic event taint our reputation. The GFU College Republicans have been encouraging the creation of a College Democrats group and find that now, more than ever, this should be pursued. We believe in a civil political dialogue between both parties in which students can objectively decide their platforms. Our heart goes out to the Act Six scholarship recipients and the GFU faculty who have had to address this unfortunate issue.
    John Archibald
    Chairman, GFU College Republicans

    • Angry White “Christian” Male

This is exactly what I’ve been saying about Jay.

Your earlier statement: “Burning in effigy is non-violent form of protest.” When you were speaking of, “in the wake of news that an effigy of Sarah Palin was being hung outside an affluent Hollywood home”.

But now you are citing this report: “Early Tuesday morning [September 23], a life sized cardboard effigy of Senator Barack Obama was found hanging from a tree in front of one of the school buildings. Truly disturbing.” Now, you think an apology is in order (the above statement by the GFU College Republicans).

How come you don’t think the “affluent Hollywood” individual needs to show some enlightened growth and apologize to Sarah Palin?

Your double standard is flying high, for all the world to see.

      • Jay

Nice. Red herrings are common in your arguments, along with smearing the messengers, which are also examples of red herrings. That’s why I am so disgusted with the Republican Party. Their standards of rational argument just keeps sinking lower and lower.

Instead of picking leaders with political grace necessary to convince others that fiscal conservatism is the better economic philosophy, they use race-baiting and cultural smears that have nothing to do with what economic knowledge will enhance prosperity and freedom for all Americans.

If the party seriously wants fiscal conservatism broadly adopted, they need to ditch leaders who use intolerant rhetoric and racial slurs or encourage xenophobia.

When Lincoln was asked if he was going to heaven or hell by a Methodist minister (who had tried to paint him as an atheist) he said “I’m going to Congress”. That’s political grace which supporters of the Abolition of slavery such as Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson admired. As long as the Republican Party drifts away from freedom and more toward doctrinaire Christianity, the fiscal conservative message will be tarnished.

        • Angry White “Christian” Male

You set up a straw man by deliberately misinterpreting Audra’s statement about the Sarah Palin effigy.

You threw a red herring into the thread by introducing a completely unrelated story about some one hanging an Obama cutout at a Christian college. That incident does not prove anything about Audra Shay’s, statement. It’s completely unrelated, it has nothing to do with her.

Then you use an ad hominem argument (guilt by association), pointing out how abusive the Republican party is, because of your misinterpretation of Ms. Shays statement. Which I believe brings us around to circular reasoning.

This has been a very educational experience for me. I came into this argument with the intention of vilifying the left. But, my hat is off to you Jay. You are the undisputed champion of smear campaigners.

Is there a word or phrase that means; accusing the individual you are arguing with of using the tactics you are using, in a way that turns the bystanders against your opponent? It looks like your a master at that too.

          • Jay

A whole new thread is not a red herring. End of story.

          • Angry White “Christian” Male

            In closing Jay. . .

Just to show you how stupid I am:

It just dawned on me, you didn’t come here to attack Audra Shay. You came here to use Audra Shay’s imagined “racism” as a straw man to attack the Republican party.

Niiiice! You got me. That was good.

  • NatTurner

I am black and a democrat. I follow probably the biggest socialist we will ever know in our lifetime, Jesus Christ. It is his words that led me politically. When he told us to turn our other cheek, that vengeance was his, to put down the sword, that the peacemakers would be called the children of God, the charge to give to the least amongst us, the story of the good semaritan, that we are to be stewards of the earth, when he mocked the rich and blesed the poor in spirit….all “liberal”. His greatest socialist event…when he fed the poor multitude with two fishes and five loafs of bread.

His greatest words were on forgiveness. I give Audra the benefit of the doubt. Only God knows her heart. I also forgive her. My grandfather used to tell me his day was better than mine because he knew the names and faces of bigots while I unknowingly invite them to dinner. The RNC, which looks like a Klan meeting only does itself harm for its commitment to exclusion. Keep the rhetoric and jokes coming, they do you no good. You are becoming the party of poor white trash (Palin & Joe the Plumber) instead of the old blue blood white capitalist aristocracy of Barry Goldwater. Keep it up! Your white Christian cross will soon enough look like the one the Kleagle wears and burns!

I love and forgive you anyway!

    • wallnuts

somebody needs to introduce you to a real klan raly my freind ,maby you need a history lesson.

      • James

someone needs to learn to read, starting with, “My grandfather used to tell me his day was better than mine because he knew the names and faces of bigots while I unknowingly invite them to dinner.” maybe its a more modern approach by the same old crowd: “sidle up and smile” !

    • Dan Bernard

Thank you for your enlightened comment!

  • http://www.yrnf.com Pat Henry

It’s concerning to me that people who are elected officials, who should know better, decided to continue to support Audra, even after she made these racist statements.

People that not only supported her but continued to run on Audra Shay’s Ticket such as:
Audra Shay’s Treasurer Candidate – Kelly Arnold, County Clerk – Sedgwick County, Kansas
Audra Shay’s Auditor Candidate – Dennis Cook, President, Consolidated District 230 Board of Education – Illinois (who is thinking of running for Statewide Office in Illinois)

I think it is unacceptable to have these elected officials continue to get elected after their support of such behavior from Mrs. Shay. They should resign along with Mrs. Shay.

  • Sunny Boy

This is the reason I left Republican Party because of the people Rush Limbaugh, Sean Heneddy, Dick Chenney and noe Audra Shay. They still do not know that the top students inschools are so called boys from Asia and slavery was abolished long time ago. Keep on electing the people like Shay in your party and real American will voting for the other party. Want to to do good things for America the dump the racist people like Audra Shay.

This kind of story is typical of the constant smears made against any woman or minority who dares to affiliate with the Republican party. Want to see real racism– Look at the video of Nancy Pelosi telling the head of the National Black Chamber of Commerce that he is wrong about Waxman Markey because the NAACP disagrees with him. The person who should be vetted is the actual blogger who apparently made the actual racial comment. If he did. and, by the way– the person who thinks that this lady is a racist because she asked the very sensible questions as to wh it is perfectly okay to hang Sarah Palin in effigy but hanging Obama in efficgy is a dastardly racist act. What that tells you is that the charge of racism is not about racism at all but a lying duplicitous smear by people who hate the capitalist system and attach anyone who supports it.

    • arugula

First of all, in no way, shape, or form did Audra write that statement, because every word is spelled correctly. Last time I checked, the person who hung Palin outside their home is not running for the Young Dems’ Chair. However, in no way does that condone their behavior. Also, last time I checked, I do not think whites were hung during the slavery, so you could see how a comment about hanging someone white or black could spark opposite reactions. Anyway, people like you will ensure that a republican never gets elected to the highest office ever again. So stop making excuses for blatan racism and start being accountable.

      • JTC

Maybe you should check your own spelling . . .

      • oscar77

We note that “accountability” is NOT ever associated with the word “Democrat”. I also note that you don’t dispute the idea that Palin in a noose is free speech, but Obama in a noose is noxious and racist. Of course you think that way, because you are a Democrat and a moron. (but I repeat myself)

      • RUFUS LEVIN

Sure….the entire South abused blacks and lynched Negros. All of them.
Get real and LEARN history, instead of spouting Black Activist Rhetoric. At least learn that John Brown led a group of Blacks to take over an armory, take weapons, and murder innocent white people in a rage to try to kill their way to end slavery. Contrast that with the success of Martin Luther King Jr.’s success in Civil Rights from non-violent protests. You can find bad actors in any racial group. So stop reliving the pre-civil war historic United States. Without slavery in the Americas, most African-Americans (so proclaimed) would still be in Africa, dying of hunger and tribal warfare, uneducated and in poor health with infant and maternal premature death rampant. Stop fighting a battle that killed 500,000 AMERICANS and wrecked the nation. No one cares that many wrongs occured THEN. This is now. Racism and politican correctness are INVENTED words only.

        • Kyle Spencer

WOW, I love how you can tell how history would have been had we not been captured from our native land. You’re awesome, What else do you know?
