Mark McBride Kicks Off Five Day Announcement Tour
Former Two-Term Myrtle Beach Mayor To Run As Independent Petition Candidate

Conway- Former two-term Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark McBride formally announced his candidacy for the United States Senate today. He started his campaign as an independent petition candidate with a noon news conference from the steps of the original Horry County Courthouse built in 1824. This was the first in a series of announcement events to be held around South Carolina today, Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of next week.

Mayor McBride said, “I am humbled by the encouragement of the last couple of months. Voters from Pendleton, Spartanburg, Beaufort, Greenville, Hanahan, Summerville, Lexington, Rock Hill, Horry County and other areas of this great state are asking for a senator who can bring real world experience to solving our problems that are all too real. I am tossing my hat into the ring to do just that.”

Mayor McBride, with 14 years of public service, said, “I will conduct this grassroots campaign on a town-to-town and county-to-county basis. I look forward to offering voters the option of having a real, conservative choice in November. I look forward to having a thorough discussion of the issues that are vital for our stat e and nation.”

“17 years ago, I started my political career and in the successive years, many residents in the City of Myrtle Beach who have supported me and even those with whom I’ve disagreed can attest to my dedication, determination and unwavering commitment to stand for what is right. To those in Myrtle Beach who have voted for me 8 times before, I ask for your support one more time. To those who have never supported me, I look forward to earning your support. I am honored to be a resident and representative of Horry County. I am honored to be a South Carolinian and an American.”

JOEY MILLWOOD ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR SC HOUSE

Spartanburg County Area Man Announces for House Seat

LANDRUM, SC – Landrum resident Joey Millwood will announce his candidacy for the South Carolina State House of Representatives Friday , 6:00 p.m. at 6867 Highway 11, Campobello, SC. This will begin Millwood’s front porch tour.

“I am pleased to announce my candidacy, “said Millwood. “Columbia politicians have strayed from their conservative values and have been running up spending year after year. I am running to put the brakes on out of control spending, fight for lower taxes, and allow the taxpayers to keep more of their hard earned money.”

Joey Millwood is running as a consistent conservative who is committed to the principles of government spending reform, tax reform, protecting our jobs from illegal immigrants, family values, and conservative Supreme Court judges.

“We need Republicans who will look at real tax reform and appoint conservative judges to the state supreme court.” said Millwood. “Tax reform is desperately needed in our state. Our income tax rate is among the ten highest in the nation and that kills jobs. It’s time to change how things are done in Columbia. Decisions should be made and laws should be passed on behalf of the taxpayers and not the politicians.”

Joey Millwood is a newspaperman and graduate of USC Upstate. He lives in Landrum with his wife Erin and their newborn daughter Eliza Cait. Joey has also been a community volunteer for the American Red Cross, Adopt a Highway, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and Greyhound Rescue.

Joey Millwood is running for House District 38.

Eric Hayler Not Qualified to Run For House District 37

UPDATE: There are arguments that this is inaccurate. According to SCSEC, Beltram is correct in his findings.

Candidate’s qualifications for all offices, except SC Senate and SC House of Representatives, are determined at the time of the election and not at the time of filing or nomination. Qualifications for Senate and House are determined at the time of filing.

PRESS RELEASE:

SPARTANBURG- After extensive investigation, a challenge is being posted to the eligibility for Eric Hayler to be a candidate for HD#37. He filed last week with the Spartanburg Democratic Party. This was confirmed and reported by the Spartanburg Herald Journal.

The rule is very clear that a candidate for the State House MUST be a resident of the district at the TIME of FILING. Mr. Hayler actually resides at 402 Longspur Ct. in Duncan which is in District #34. Repeated calls by GOP officials to the Hayler residence (864-486-8883) confirmed that this address is the current Hayler residence. Although, the house is for sale by owner, the candidate resides in a location that is not within District #37. Several pictures were taken over several days to add evidence that this residence is fully occupied. The candidate’s auto is also pictured in the driveway of the home.

The Spartanburg County Republican Party asks that the Spartanburg Democratic Party to immediately “de-file” this individual as ineligible to be a candidate. This is not the first occasion that the Democrats have filed candidates that are ineligible. Liz Patterson contended in 2006 that it is not her responsibility to “police” the candidates that come forward.

As a result, the GOP has been forced to perform “due diligence” on the Democratic candidates. Other Democratic filed candidates are being reviewed for eligibility. Filing ends promptly at noon on Sunday 03/30/08. GOP officials will be at Democratic HQ at that time to assure that election law is properly executed.
