McCain Trying to Smear Romney

I just got a telephone poll from the Research Data Design Group. First I must say, they included all of the top tier candidates.

  • Ron Paul
  • Rudy Giuliani
  • John McCain
  • Mitt Romney
  • Mike Huckabee
  • Fred Thompson

As we went through the questions, it became very obvious that this poll was put out by McCain’s group. It listed all of his accomplishments, his stance on pork barrel spending (yet he didn’t try to stop Hillary’s Woodstock Museum), etc. It was very evident that the questions they were asking were to give you a favorable opinion of McCain.

It was then followed by several questions concerning Mitt Romney. During the process, they actually repeated some of the questions. It attacked Romney on his change in position on abortion, taxes, marriage his lack of service in the military. Stated that he dodged Vietnam by getting a deferment from the Mormon Church to be a missionary in France and a second deferment to go to school. All the while touting McCain and his sons service.

In regards to the commonly not so recognized candidates in the Mainstream Media, some of there questions concerning issues in America definitely excluded any position by Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee.

I knew that with the results showing Romney’s gains, they would begin an attack. I did not think though that it would be so blatantly obvious in a telephone poll.

UPDATE:  12:19am 11/18/2007
The McCain campaign as asked the New Hampshire attorney general to investigate this matter.  I have spoken to the campaign to make them aware that this smearing has spread  to SC.

How To Implement Ron Paul’s Foreign Policy?

Posted by Gary Coats on November 13, 2007 under Elections 2008, President | 3 Comments to Read

I received an e-mail the other day concerning our military base in Ecuador (Manta Air Base). The sender was informing many about an excerpt from Reuters. Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa said in a statement the other day that the United States must allow Ecuador to build a base in Miami, FL if we wish to renew the lease of Manta Air Base in 2009.

Many people will probably sit back and laugh upon reading this news. The American people would not allow this to happen.

So how does this work to Ron Paul’s advantage? Dr. Paul has said on multiple occassions that we need to reduce the size of our foreign empire. By denying Ecuador’s request, we will shut down the base in Ecuador. Immediately, countries who are dissatisfied with our precense could apply the same methodology. Eventually, a large majority of our international military bases could be shut down, effectively implementing Ron Paul’s foreign policy.

The base is scheduled to close in 2009, so President Bush and Congress would have to make a decision on whether or not to accept or deny Ecuador’s request. Could it be that President Bush would help implement Ron Paul’s foreign policy?

I guess the true question would be whether or not the other nations would make the same proposal to the United States?

Fred Thompson in Trouble?

While working out today, I heard some interesting political analysis on the Republican Campaigns. During Wolf Blitzer’s “Situation Room”, Blitzer and a Political analyst were discussing the Thompson strategy (transcript if you are interested). In it, he stated that Thompson could be in trouble, that his campaigns focus has been solely devoted to the south. His hopes was to capture South Carolina, which is in a three way tie between Thompson, Romney and Guiliani.

He continued to state that he has not even cared about New Hampshire, and the polls show it. “He is currently polling behind Ron Paul in New Hampshire”.  Thompson is supposed to be getting the National Right to Life Endorsement tomorrow, but I’m not sure how much that will help him. What’s your opinion.
